MARINE (CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCY)

(TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS) REGULATIONS, 1989
(Regulation (b))


IN accordance of the provision of paragraph (b) of Regulation 4 of the Marine (Certificate of Competency) (Transitional Provisions) Regulations, 1989, (the "Regulations") the Marine Board has revoked its decision of 9 July, 1991, notified in the Fiji Government Gazette dated 19 July 1991, and decided:


(a) a Certificate of Competency listed under "Column A" of the Table, issued before the coming into force of the Regulations, shall be deemed to be equivalent to a Certificate of Competency listed opposite it under "Column B" of the Table, as if the Certificate of Competency listed under "Column A" was issued after the coming into force of the Regulations; and


(b) The holder of a Certificate of Competency specified in "Column A" of the Table is entitled to perform the duties that that certificate permitted in addition to the duties the corresponding Certificate of Competency in "Column B" of the Table Permits.

All "Column A" certificates holders must be medically examined and declared fit by a Medical Officer appointed by the Fiji Marine Board before the issue of "Column B" certificates.
