An Act to amend the Betting Control Act No. 1 of 1993

Be it enacted by the President and Parliament as follows-

1 Amendments

The Betting Control Act No. 1 of 1993 is amended as set out in the Schedule.

2 Commencement

This Act commences on 1 January 2001.

Amendments of the Betting Control Act No. 1 of 1993

1 Subsection 9(2)

Delete "3 years", substitute "10 years".

2 Subsection 30(2)

Delete "3 years", substitute "10 years".

3 Section 33

Repeal the section.

BILL FOR THE BETTING

CONTROL (AMENDMENT) ACT NO. 47 OF 2000

Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the Betting Control Act No. 1 of 1993.

Item 1 of the Schedule increases the maximum renewal period for a licence under section 9 from 3 years to 10 years.

Item 2 of the Schedule increases the maximum renewal period for a permit under section 30 from 3 years to 10 years.

Item 3 of the Schedule repeals section 33. That section required permit holders to pay a commission to the Government based on net turnover.
