TAXIS (FARES)

Order 1 of 1997

To prescribe taxi fares for the Municipality of Port Vila and the Efate region.

1. Taxi fares
(1) Subject to section 2, no person shall, for any journey by a taxi within the Municipality of Port Vila and the Efate region, charge any passenger a fare exceeding the fare determined in accordance with the following scale:

TARIFF 1:

(a) The commencing fare at the commencement of the journey is 100 Vatu.

(b) For a journey of ½ kilometer or any part thereof the fare is 100 Vatu.

(c) For a journey of more than 1 kilometer:

(i) for the first kilometer – 150 Vatu,

(ii) for each 1 kilometer after the first kilometer or any outstanding part of any such unit – 100 Vatu

(iii) for each additional unit of 100 m or any outstanding part thereof is 10 Vatu.

TARIFF 2:

(a) The commencing fare at the commencement of the journey is 100 Vatu.

(b) For a journey of ½ kilometer or any part thereof the fare is 100 Vatu.

(c) For a journey of more than 1 kilometer:

(i) for the first kilometer – 170 Vatu,

(ii) for each 1 kilometer after the first kilometer or any outstanding part of any such unit – 140 Vatu

(iii) for each additional unit of 100 m or any outstanding part thereof - 14 Vatu.

(d) 100 Vatu payable in respect of a journey in paragraphs (a) and (b) is paid once only.

(2) Tariff 1 shall commence at 6:00 a.m. and end at 6:00 p.m.

(3) Tariff 2 shall commence at 6:00 p.m. and end at 6:00 a.m.

2. Taxi fares for Efate Region
No person shall, for any journey by a taxi within the Efate region, charge any passenger a fare exceeding the fare determined in accordance with the following scale:

3. Waiting time
A waiting time charge by the taxi is determined in accordance with the following scale:

TARIFF 1: 10 VT on every 60 seconds;

TARIFF 2: 10 VT on every 30 seconds.
