Meat Industry Advisory Board

MEAT INDUSTRY ADVISORY BOARD


Order 3 of 2001


To provide for the appointment of the Meat Industry Advisory Board.


1. Appointment of Meat Industry Advisory Board
(1) (Appointment of Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson – names omitted)


(2) (Appointment of members – names omitted)


(3) In this Order, “member” means a member of the Meat Industry Advisory Board and includes the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson.


2. Acting appointments
(1) If the Chairperson is absent from office due to illness, absence from Vanuatu or some other valid reason, the Deputy Chairperson will perform the duties of the Chairperson.


If both the Chairperson and the Deputy Chairperson are absent from office due to illness, absence from Vanuatu or some other valid reason, the Board may appoint any other members to perform their duties.


Acting appointments must not exceed 6 months.


3. Term of office
Appointments made under section 1 are for a period of 3 years and come into effect from the date on which this Order is made.


4. Quorum
The quorum consists of 6 members, one of whom must be the Chairperson or the Deputy Chairperson.


5. Vacation of office
(1) A member may vacate office on:


(a) expiry of the term of office; or


(b) resignation.


(2) A member who vacates office on resignation must give the Board 14 days’ written notice of his or her resignation.


(3) If a member ceases to serve on the Board under this section or section 6, the organization that nominated that member to the Board , must nominate another person to replace that member.


6. Removal from office
The Minister may remove a member from office for:


misconduct; or


failure to attend two meetings of the Board in a year without prior approval from the Chairperson or the Deputy Chairperson.


7. Meetings of the Board
(1) The Board must meet at least 3 times a year, at dates to be determined by the Board or by the Chairperson of the Board.


(2) The Chairperson is responsible for calling Board meetings.


(3) The Chairperson must given one month’s written notice of Board meetings to members.


8. Determination of the Board
(1) Decisions of the Board are to be reached by consensus.


(2) Copies of the minutes of Board meetings and any report produced by the Board must be distributed to the Minister, Director-General and members of the Board as soon as practicable after each meeting and the production of each report.


9. Proceedings of the Board
Subject to this Order, the Board is to regulate proceedings at its meetings as it considers appropriate.
