2. Offence
NEWSPAPERS (RESTRICTION ON PUBLICATION)
To restrict the publication of newspapers in Vanuatu to citizens.
1. Restriction on publication of newspapers
(1) Subject to the provisions of this Act a non-citizen shall not own or publish a newspaper in Vanuatu.
(2) A non-citizen may publish or own a newspaper if he first obtains the approval of the Minister responsible for newspaper publications.
(3) For the purpose of this section –
"newspaper" means any paper containing public news and observations on it which is printed for sale in Vanuatu;
"non-citizen" includes a corporate body controlled by a non-citizen.
2. Offence
Any person who contravenes section 1 shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of VT 100,000 or to 6 months imprisonment, or to both.
