FUNAFUTI CONSERVATION AREA ORDER 1999

CONSERVATION AREA ACT 1999 (ACT NO. 3 OF 1999)


Commencement [1st December, 1999]


IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Conservation Areas Act 1999 and upon the receipt of the report of the Kaupule of Unafuti and after due consultation with the Kaupule o Funafuti recommending the establishment of the Funafuti Conservation Area, the Minister makes the following Order —


1 Short title and commencement


This Order may be cited as the Kaupule o Funafuti Conservation Area Order 1999, and shall come into operation on 1st December, 1999.


2 Funafuti Conservation Area


1. There shall be a conservation area within the island of Funafuti to be called the Funafuti Conservation Area.


2. The boundary limits of the Funafuti Conservation Area are described in Schedule 1 and depicted by a map in Schedule 2.

DESCRIPTION OF LIMITS CONSERVATION AREA


1. The boundaries of the Funafuti Conservation Area, which are more particularly delineated in Schedule 2 are —


North: The centre of the channel between the islets of Tepuka and Tepuka vilivili *


South: 1. 11 km south of Tefala Islet *


East: A long the 30m depth contour on the lagoon side of the islets following a line between co-ordinates shown in the table below. The northern and southernmost coordinates are marked by orange buoys.


West: The 20m depth contour along the ocean side reef slope (the deep water drop off or ‘Tafalua ‘).


2. The co-ordinates for the lagoon-side boundary of the Funafuti Conservation Area are:
