ANIMAL IMPORTATION ACT
(CAP. 159)


ANIMAL IMPORTATION (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 2006


IN exercise of powers conferred upon me by section 11 of the Act, I make these Regulations -


Citation


1. These Regulations may be cited as the Animal Importation (Amendment) Regulations 2006.


New Regulation 47 added


2. The Animal Importation Regulation are amended by adding the following regulation -


"Cooked beef from Papua New Guinea


47. "Cooked beef from Papua New Guinea contained in hermetically sealed cans may be imported into Fiji from Papua New Guinea subject to the following conditions -


(a) that beef carcasses for canning are only those imported from either New Zealand or Australia, provided that such carcasses are derived from animals killed in a duly registered or licensed slaughtering establishment or have been processed and prepared in a duly registered or licensed export packing house;


(b) that cans of cooked meat are those produced or manufactured in Papua New Guinea at a cannery approved by Chief Executive Officer responsible for Agriculture in Fiji; and


(c) the cans are accompanied by a certificate issued by a veterinary officer of the Government of Papua New Guinea, certifying that the requirements of sub paragraphs (a) and (b) have been complied with.".
