Native Lands Act 1875

FIJI ISLANDS

Fiji No.VI, 1875

An Ordinance (enacted by the Governor of the Colony of Fiji with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof.)

TO PROHIBIT THE ALIENATION OF LAND BY NATIVES IN THE COLONY OF FIJI.

Be it enacted by His Excellency the Governor with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council as follows:-

Short title.

I. This Ordinance may be cited for all purposes as "The Native Lands Transfer Prohibition Ordinance 1875."

Land transactions with Natives prohibited.

II. All conveyances transfers leases and all transactions whatsoever in land or relating to any interest between Natives and any persons not being Natives are hereby expressly prohibited and declared to be invalid and it shall not be lawful to institute any proceedings whatever in any Court of Law in respect thereof.

Passed in Council this sixteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy five.
