AN ACT


TO AMEND THE LEGAL AID ACT


ENACTED by the Parliament of the Fiji Islands-


Short Title


1. This Act may be cited as the Legal Aid (Amendment) Act 1998.


Interpretation


2. Section 3 of the Legal Aid Act 1996 (No. 10 of 1996) is amended in the definition of "Minister" by deleting "Minister for Justice" and substituting "Minister responsible for the administration of this Act, and includes the Attorney-General if he or she is so responsible".


Constitution of Commission


3. Section 5 of the Legal Aid Act 1996 is amended-


(a) by deleting subsection (5);


(b) in subsection (3) by deleting "Attorney-General" and substituting "Minister".


Confidentiality


4. Section 31 of the Legal Aid Act 1996 is amended in paragraph (c) by adding "(if not the Attorney-General)" after "Minister".
